As a student one of the conundrums often experienced when using knowledge gained to
Join the workforce or freelance yourself is the experience factor. As a student or new graduate, you may feel as if you've gained top shelf skills that you'd loke to put on display to help provide solutions for others but not having a tangible portfoio of Qualified work can be a disqualifying factor. The most likely next step is to find freelance platforms to begin building a portfolio of qualifying work. Finding a platform which provides the work experience you are looking to gain at an optimum level but one that offers a pathway for students to be competitive in obtaining work can be a difficult nut to crack. I can say when jumping into a perceived opportunity where seasoned professionals already exisrt can be extremely difficult even for seasoned professionals who have experience. Many times there can be a ton of hours worked for an easy project which pays very little. The ideal situation sometimes is to use multiple sites to build that experience while also collaborating with those in the same boat as you so that your experiential learning encompasses more at times than working alone on a singular project.

What's the best solution? A staggered approach could be the most advantageous. Become a member at more than one platform...not more than 3 or 4 sites. So in this case you've become a member on an entry level platform...a mainstream level platform...and exclusive level platform. This way you learn to price your skills in order to not get taken advantage of...build a scaled portfolio...and start to really distinguish not only yourself but also your skillset.

That being said our top 3 list consists of...entry level platforms....mainstream level...and exclusive level.

Entry Level
1. CertificationPoint
2. StudentGems
3. ParkerDewey

Mainstream Level
1. UpWork
2. Freelancer
3. Fiverr

Exclusive Level
1. Toptal
2. Gun.io
3. Hubstaff

Let me know your thoughts on this list as well as any other platforms which also be included.

I've always been a fan of freelance work not onle to gain experience in a specific area but also to collaborate and earn extra income. I believe that in the future freelance work will definitely be intertwined with high level organizations normal day to day work...outside of bringing in contractors. Not sure of the logistics of making this happen...but the possibilities are endless. Luv the site and the interaction!

I like how it’s divided into levels for students as some have different levels of experience. Still difficult to break into
The more mainstream options without a body of work. Do the entry level options offer some sort of mentoring?
